About Anything, and possibly Everything..

It was the year 2005 and I had just started my first WordPress blog. Registering domains and buying hosting was something totally new to me but I still managed to get everything working at the end. I remember how proud I felt when my first privately hosted blog was unleashed on to the internet. So what have I learnt during these last two years? What good advise do I have for all the new bloggers? I’ve decided to create a short list of 10 things I think very important for every new blogger wanting to make it big on the internet.

10 – Take it to the end

I’ve started many blogs only to abandon them a few days after their creation. Boredom or whatever you might call it, many of my blogs never lived to see more than a few days of internet life. When starting something always take it to the end. One day you’ll wake up and notice that nothing you ever created has matured because you always gave up. I had to learn this lesson the hard way, trust me, it’s hard to swallow.

9 – Everyone fails

If you don’t have a lot of internet knowledge the odds are you’re going to fail at least once. That really sucks I know but no one on the internet is keeping score. Try again, only this time try harder.

8 – People talk Crap

People talk loads of crap, this goes double for bloggers. Boasting is a big thing on the blogosphere and it works wonders for tricking newbies. You can make money with blogging but most bloggers tend to exaggerate, to say the least, when talking about their success.

7 – Make friends, you need them

That’s another lesson that took me many months to learn. just like in real life friends can be really helpful. Making good friends on the internet isn’t geeky any more, normal people have started doing that too. Friends can help you monetize your blog faster and provide you with tips that in other circumstances would take you ages to learn.

6 – Knowledge is power, join a forum

I wasn’t sure which of the two, join a forum or make friends was more important since they complement each other. Regardless joining a good webmasters forum is a must. I can be seen lingering on Digital Point and would advise you to join as soon as possible. In a few weeks you’ll thank me.

5 – Politeness

I was going to discuss this topic in the join a forum section but since it’s so important I’ve decided to tackle it separately. Many cybernauts are pricks and has luck may have it, bloggers too. So I guess we have a rather interesting dilemma on our hands. Even though these characters are sure to cross your path be a gentleman or a lady and treat them with deceiving wit. Get even not mad, always come out on top. Using fowl language, even if reason is on your side, will only serve to brand you a moron.

4 – Take it easy with the ads already

We all love adsense and yes, we do know what it’s used for. Take it easy when placing as on your blog. Nothing screams newbie more than a blog filled with crappy ads from every affiliate programs known to mankind. This is when step 6 and 7 come in handy. Ask friends and fellow forum members what are the best options for monetizing a blog.

Affiliate programs are great for making money but in many cases the most popular ones aren’t suitable for your blog. Take the time to study all your options and then choose the one that suits you most.

3 – The first impact counts

Many people will want to make you believe that only content counts, the rest is secondary. I couldn’t disagree more with this statement. Studies have proven that it only takes a few seconds for a visitor to judge your blog, so don’t was their time. Blogs that are organised and visually pleasant have better changes of making money, I can talk from experience.

2 – Content does actually count

Yes, the text contained in your blog does serve a purpose, although in some cases this theory has been put to the test. Good posts filled with unique content is a must to be a top bogger and that’s why my blog will never reach such prestigious status.

1 – Be yourself

I’m sure many of you reading this post don’t know why I regard being yourself important when blogging. Think about it, there isn’t a thing in this world you know better than being yourself. Only you can be yourself and since everyone is unique so are you. In simpler terms, always try to be unique in everything you do especially when you’re blogging. People on the internet like that.

Blogging can be hard and a daunting task if you have visions on big success and money in the beginning. What you need to remeber is that everybody has a blog and thinks the way to do. The people that they want to attract are the ones that turn on their computers, click on their Internet browser button and search for what they want that day. Think current events, what most people have seen in the past 24 hours. Fresh on their minds, they most likely will want to start a search for it. Create a halloween blog now and create a holidat blog now also. Whatever the person has on their mind before they search, make sure you goyt a blog about it waiting their for them. WIGOB!

Yes you are right. knowing what people want before they search for it is very important. Especially if you want to benefit from search engine traffic.
