RapidShare is a German owned file hosting site that operates from Switzerland. Currently revenue is generated by the subscriptions of paying (Premium) users. It operates as both a pay and free service (with many limitations), allowing any user to upload files of up to 100 MB. The user is then supplied with a unique download URL, which locates the file and enables anyone with whom the uploader shares it to download the file.

Finding RapidShare files can be quite hard since there isn’t a search function available on the site with this feature. Luckily that won’t be a big problem since all stored files contain the RapidShare URL (example: http://rapidshare.com/Filename.rar).

A few days ago I wrote a post on how to search for media files using Google. The principal used is nearly the same, all you have to do is change a few parameters. So how do we use Google to find these files? Very simple.

Search all files on rapidshare:

.* site:rapidshare.com

Search for all media files on rapidshare:

+inurl:avi|mpg|wmv site:rapidshare.com

Search all music files:

+inurl:wma|mp3|ogg site:rapidshare.com

Use this string to search for “pavarotti” wma and mp3 files, from the site rapidshare.com:

+inurl:wma|mp3|ogg site:rapidshare.com pavarotti

It’s really that simple. If you know any more search strings that should be on this list please leave a comment.

Idolme, your teen community

idolme.gifThe internet is an amazing place, especially if you’re interested in meeting new people. I recall that a few years ago if someone talked about meeting people online they were branded as an ugly geek or mentally retarded. Fortunately for all of us those days are over and taking advantage of an online community has become quite common and popular. Many of these sites have become so popular that they boast literally millions of users. I too belong to an online community and have come to enjoy it thoroughly. Some sites like Teen chat @ idolme.com enable people to join, create a friends list and interact with them in many ways, making it a very interesting channel to meet new people from all over the world. If this is all news to you and you haven’t joined an online community yet I can only urge you to give it a try. It’s simply amazing the number of people that are active in these communities, so finding and making new friends will be the easiest part. So what are you waiting for? Join and start meeting new people. You never know, we might even run into each other one of these days.

Halo 3

halo_3.jpg

Halo 3 is here, people are gaming and I can’t join in since I don’t have an Xbox. That sums it up pretty nicely. I wanted to know what was the big deal with Halo 3 so went searching for information around the net and this is what I got.

Microsoft can rejoice. Soldier Master Chief has come back from the battlefield with $170 million dollars in the first 24 hours of sales in the United States, making it the biggest day in US entertainment history, beating Spider Man 3 and all Harry Potter movies. Not bad, it looks like Microsoft has moved from building crappy operating systems to creating excellent games. I’m sure many IT professionals will not only encourage this migration but lend a helping hand if needed. The game was made by Bungie Studios with a development budget of a little more than $60 million. It is predicted that another $15 million to $20 million in television marketing will be spent promoting the game.

Conclusion, I still won’t by an Xbox just to play Halo 3.

Tekzilla!

Tekzilla! is creating quite a buzz on the web, especially on sites like Digg and Reddit. I decided to take a look for myself to see what all the commotion was about and to be truly honest didn’t see what was so amazing. Don’t get me wrong, I did like watching the episode and was quite impressed with the content and filming quality, but is that enough? Tekzilla! isn’t a novelty, actually quite far from it. The show only differs slightly from other already well know internet channels.

A few months ago I wrote a post about WebbAlert, a website and daily videocast created by Morgan and RipCam Media. It was news when it aired, it created buzz and it looked great. But was it enough? I watched the first few episodes and to be honest, never returned because the content simply wasn’t there. My Alexa bar shows a drastic drop in ranking over the past weeks.I’m not trying to kill or attack anybody here, just being honest and explaining my views.

Tekzilla! has content and from watching it only once you’ll undoubtedly understand that the people behind the scenes do really understand what they’re talking about . Watch it and tell me what you think.

Star Wars

I’m a big Star Wars fan, who isn’t? That’s why I’ve decided to make a post depicting all movies from the series along with other information that fans might find interesting. The films bring back great memories of when cinema was fun, always bringing a smile and laughter to the audience. Unfortunately that isn’t true any more, greed and easy money has taken it’s place as the number one priority on every big shot Hollywood producer.

The internet has once again proved that it as many uses, one of them being spreading the truth around the world. This video taken from Youtube shows the Japanese photojournalist being shot a point blank by what appears to be an armed soldier.

Wordpress 2.3

Well I’ve upgraded to wordpress 2.3 and from the looks of things it’s pretty good. The installation went smoothly, without any problems, so I’m happy. Since I decided to upgrade my blog CMS I thought it would be also a good idea to do the same for my theme. So this is kind of a fresh start on all fronts.

I got upgraded

tvcabo.gifYes that’s right, I got upgraded. My cable company phoned me today to informed me that my internet connection is going to be upgraded from the current 8MB to 12MB (connection speed) and the best part, it’s all free. With my old connection I could download files from some sites, very few, at around 1mb per minute. With this new upgrade I can only imagine.

If you’re thinking that this will make all the difference think again. Very few sites around the net actually let you make downloads at these speeds. Actually the only one I can think of right now is Microsoft.com, so don’t worry about it. Higher speed internet connection doesn’t necessarily mean  better web surfing.
