Many people hunger for the opportunity to turn their blog into a profitable enterprise. Unfortunately before this can happen, there are a few simple rules that have to be carefully investigated before a blog can in fact become profitable. Bellow you will find ten easy steps that will help accomplish this goal.

Write for people not machines
1 -Many people will start a blog with the prefabricated idea that only search engines (SE) can provide good traffic. The end result is that these blogs become cluttered with long posts or articles that do not appeal to the average reader. When writing, be it a short post about the resent events in your life or a complex tutorial about “10 crucial steps to developing a good blog”, you should always think of the readers first.

Enough with the ads already
2 –This is the first phrase I say when visiting most blogs. Over crowded blogs with banner ads popping out from every corner annoy most readers and discourages them from ever returning. Please understand that in most cases these banners will never earn a single cent, so give it up already.

Communicate
3 -Communicate with the audience, don’t turn your blog into a one way information stream that does not promote interactivity. Most blogs on my daily must visit list are excellent at communicating and always engage us, the reader, by promoting feedback and interactivity. This can be easily achieved by asking for opinions and responding all question or suggestions made.

Leave comments on blogs
4 –Bloggers respect and appreciate readers that leave good comments on their blogs. A comment is seen as retribution to the hard work invested in writing a good post and will motivate them to visit your blog and return the favor.

Write about other bloggers
5 – When I say write about other bloggers I am talking about any service, plugin, themes they might have developed or released. Write a post describing the product offered and link to the original blog so that your readers can download whatever might be on offer. I have developed many friendships and benefited from a lot of services provided completely free of charge from bloggers, merely because I wrote a review and linked to their blog.

Stick to what you know
6 –Stick to a topic you dominate, currently there are enough marketing blogs on the blogosphere already. Starting any project on a theme you do not understand is very complicated and in most cases dictates imminent failure. This is also a very good way to be branded a complete idiot seeing as the content offered will obviously lack the needed knowhow.

One is always better than two
7 –Some people wrongly assume that maintaining a few blogs is the best solution since it provides a better chance of succeeding. Just because you make $100 per month on one blog doesn’t automatically mean you will earn $200 with two blogs. Most people have found that it is easier to make money from only one blog than from a few less active blogs. This goes double if you are an extremely occupied individual that finds it hard to maintain an active blog.

Develop a routine
8 –People like to know what to expect and love to be part of a routine. Cleverly build a routine on your blog and watch has the readers pour in. A blogger can easily create a routine by organizing the publication of new content to coincide with a particular day of the week.

Be unique
9 –Every single living soul on this planet is unique and has something exceptional to contribute. Trying to copy, duplicate or mimic other popular blogs is a clear demonstration of laziness and little imagination. Contribute with your own unique experiences and create something that stands out from the crowd.

Have fun
10 –The last crucial step is in my opinion the most important because it will dictate the continuity of your blog. The best bloggers are the ones that have fun and enjoy what they do. Don’t fall into the trap of starting something just for the financial gain, I can guarantee that in most cases failure is the end result. Have fun with your blog will prosper and so will you.

Creating a better, more professional blog is easy but it does require some hard work and perseverance. Apply the 10 steps mentioned above to maximize the potential of your blog and notice has the readers start to flock in.

Good news for all you Wordpress fanatics, it seems that Justin Tadlock managed to do it again, only this time he really surpassed is previous achievements by releasing the new Visionary Newspaper Wordpress Theme. The automated blog has arrives and with it came the disguised steeling of content combined with a new wave of spam that promises to clog the internet with useless rubbish. Today a controversial news article was published by the Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Notícias. According to the article, the Portuguese Communication Regulatory Entity (Entidade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social) has confirmed that their reach has been extended to include websites and blogs. Basically the new inclusion states that people can now submit a complaint to the (ERC) concerning any dilemma involving a website or blog.

Although the new measures might sound like fair practices that will further benefit users and bloggers alike, in reality this couldn’t be any further from the truth. In Italy a new law is being analyzed in which all bloggers would be forced to register and acquire a certificate of approval. This regulatory entity would advise bloggers of their rights and obligations whilst also promoting the paying of taxes, even if the blog in question is nonprofit. Obviously that is only half the story, this law would also create a editorial organization with journalistic capabilities to monitor all sites.

Portuguese Politicians are now also interested in shutting (censoring) the nation’s voice and censoring mischief bloggers is the way of archiving this. Just a few days ago one of the most prominent Portuguese Television anchormen saw a disciplinary process instated for openly admitting that the administration of the government controlled RTP1 (Radio Televisão Portuguese) was encouraging the editing (censoring) of news to benefit certain political parties.

Many politicians fear the internet especially the blogosphere seeing as the normal fascist editorial laws do not apply or simply cannot be enforced. With the increase of citizen or free speech bloggers, controlling the media has become impossible given that these bloggers have managed to build a wide spread following and in many cases even outpaced the more traditional news sources.

With the power of speech in the hands of the common people, Governments are disarmed of their precious propaganda tools (media) that only serve to fabricate deceit. Controlling what people read is the easiest way to control what they think. I know this has become more than evident in many countries around the world.
