MakeASearch.gifLink building is one of the most important characteristics in the art of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and a serious instrument every online business should take into consideration when trying to rank well on search engines like Google, Yahoo or Ask. The more links a site has pointing to it the better it will rank on search results resulting in more visitors and more sales.

One of the most effective approaches to this problem is to have a site submitted to a web directory. An excellent place to start would be the MakeaSearch premium web directory which has a wide range of categories to accommodate nearly all sites imaginable. Another advantage of using a directory is that each site has the opportunity to leave a small description next to their link. This space could be used to write a paragraph containing useful information that would describe the business and the services offered.

The MakeaSearch directory is the best place to start any link building or advertising campaign since they boast such competitive prices and outstanding quality. Submitting a site is extremely easy and only takes a few minutes. Don’t wait any longer, start today and take advantage of superior search engine rankings that will drive hundreds of customers to your site.

rss.gifThe automated blog has arrives and with it came the disguised steeling of content combined with a new wave of spam that promises to clog the internet with useless rubbish. Just when we thought that normal spam was under control out comes another even worse replacement to satisfy the hunger of lazy, third class webmasters.

These blogs are generally created using the WordPress blogging CMS and an easily obtainable plugin. Let me just start by saying that if you expect me to link to this plugin I’m sorry but this will not happen since this sort of scheme doesn’t create any value, just steals content (feeds) from other blogs.

These blogs have been popping up like mushrooms and currently represent nearly all my incoming links. I don’t know if other bloggers have been experiencing the same thing but for the past month Trackbacks from such blogs have started to represent a big chunk of all spam caught by Askimet. I understand that many bloggers might even condone such practices because at the end they still get an inbound link and to be honest with you I still don’t know where I stand on this.

My problem with such blogs is that they really don’t create any value and only survive by leeching the hard work of others. We can all appreciate a link now and then but these are useless given that they boast nearly no value. I guess all we can do now is wait and hope this trend eventually dies.

FreeSpeech.gif

Today a controversial news article was published by the Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Notícias. According to the article, the Portuguese Communication Regulatory Entity (Entidade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social) has confirmed that their reach has been extended to include websites and blogs. Basically the new inclusion states that people can now submit a complaint to the (ERC) concerning any dilemma involving a website or blog.

Although the new measures might sound like fair practices that will further benefit users and bloggers alike, in reality this couldn’t be any further from the truth. In Italy a new law is being analyzed in which all bloggers would be forced to register and acquire a certificate of approval. This regulatory entity would advise bloggers of their rights and obligations whilst also promoting the paying of taxes, even if the blog in question is nonprofit. Obviously that is only half the story, this law would also create a editorial organization with journalistic capabilities to monitor all sites.

Portuguese Politicians are now also interested in shutting (censoring) the nation’s voice and censoring mischief bloggers is the way of archiving this. Just a few days ago one of the most prominent Portuguese Television anchormen saw a disciplinary process instated for openly admitting that the administration of the government controlled RTP1 (Radio Televisão Portuguese) was encouraging the editing (censoring) of news to benefit certain political parties.

Many politicians fear the internet especially the blogosphere seeing as the normal fascist editorial laws do not apply or simply cannot be enforced. With the increase of citizen or free speech bloggers, controlling the media has become impossible given that these bloggers have managed to build a wide spread following and in many cases even outpaced the more traditional news sources.

With the power of speech in the hands of the common people, Governments are disarmed of their precious propaganda tools (media) that only serve to fabricate deceit. Controlling what people read is the easiest way to control what they think. I know this has become more than evident in many countries around the world.

I only ask that you please help me get the word out. Keeping the blogosphere open to free speech is the only way we can truly make this a better world for all.

Notice: Please note that the links provided in this article are from Portuguese sites. If you would like to read the original news articles please leave a comment bellow. I will gladly try my best to translate them into English as soon as possible.

The WP-Directory WordPress Plugin is a very useful plugin that will create an extremely functional link directory on your WordPress blog. Very simple to install and even easier to use this is one of those plugins I’ve always wanted to have but never found one that was so functional.

For a simple example of a site using WP-Directory WordPress Plugin please visit OTTQ.com.

You can download the WP-Directory WordPress Plugin from here.

wordpress.jpgIf you’re an old time blogger and have been in the game for a few years, you know that after reaching the hundreds of posts a WordPress blog will start to feel the heat. The blog will get slower and in many circumstances will become nearly inaccessible because of the time it takes to load. This is even worse if your blog appears on Digg.com, Slashdot, Stumbleupon or any other popular site that can generate a lot of traffic.

The solution is quite simple and it comes in the form of a very easy to use plugin. WordPress Super cache generates html files and serves them without ever invoking a single line of PHP. The plugin will also save a copy of all dynamically generated pages, and place them in directories that match the permalinks structure. You can read all the features on the official site. If your blog is showing these symptoms give this excellent plugin a try.

StupidFilter.gifJust like the popular saying indicates “there’s an idiot born every second” and according to StupidFilter, this goes double for stupid comments. The solution they are going to try create resembles in many ways the already widely used spam blocking system.

The solution we’re creating is simple: an open-source filter software that can detect rampant stupidity in written English. This will be accomplished with weighted Bayesian analysis and some rules-based processing, similar to spam detection engines. The primary challenge inherent in our task is that stupidity is not a binary distinction, but rather a matter of degree. To this end, we’re collecting a ranked corpus of stupid text, gleaned from user comments on public websites and ranked on a five-point scale.

As for information on whether StupiFilter will really work and a description of all its functionalities we will have to way until around December, 2007, date indicated for the official release. The good news is that the development team plans on releasing a fully implemented Firefox plugin and a WordPress plugin which I’m sure will come in handy.
