Would Microsoft Back Down?

Recent talks of Microsoft trying to buy Yahoo! has made me wonder. While it makes commercial sense to Microsoft, and perhaps Yahoo! shareholders, it makes absolutely no sense to us, the users.

Its common knowledge that in terms of accuracy and speed of search engines, it is rank in the order of Google, Yahoo and Live (or whatever they call it). That is the result of the market share of each company in terms of searches. Will the “merger” of Microsoft and Yahoo searches produce more accurate searches for the “new” company or search engine? Very doubtful indeed.

Mr Icahn’s mind is made up. It is up to minority Yahoo! shareholders to make their voices felt. Microsoft should concentrate on getting their products and services more user-friendly. Update their search algorithm to make it more search friendly (how many times have you searched for something on their platform and decides that Google’s searches produces more accurate results - though it is getting less accurate these days, but that’s another story.), and produce more accurate results?

Why would Microsoft wants Yahoo! ? Due to Yahoo! Mail? Social sites? Advertising potential? I currently use Yahoo! Search Marketing for my ad links. If Microsoft successfully buy Yahoo, I can see the demise of Yahoo as a search engine, and Google totally dominating - not something I would like to see really.

In business sense, Microsoft has done the right move. On the other hand, they will just waste money. Google will just grow stronger and the “new” merged search “giant” will just grow smaller, in terms of advertisement revenue, in terms of search market share. Only one guy will be left laughing.

Just a few days ago I wrote a post about how CNET had rated Microsoft’s Vista Operating System, one of the Top Ten terrible Tech Products of all time. Today CNET wants to make it all better by offering free advice to Microsoft on how to improve their much despised product.

The first suggestion is rather interesting and I’m sure it will be the one that receives the most approval from Microsoft. Going open source is the first step to success and has CNET put it “the only real solution to fixing Windows’ slew of issues”. I can see where they want to go with this but for some reason I don’t think it will happen, call it a gut feeling.

Make things simple, sell only one Version of Vista. Simple is good but in Europe that can result in expensive law suits. To be totally fair, I don’t really think Microsoft has much power over this issue. European anti-monopoly laws are a bitch and Microsoft has learnt that the hard way.

Don’t try be the big chiwawa of the internet, stick to software and be happy. I really agree with this point in many ways. Microsoft despises Google and has been on a buying spree to see if they can make a dent, especially in the online Advertising market. They don’t strand a change of beating Google and should stick to what they know best, developing crappy OS.

The last suggestion is an important one but I don’t really know if relevant. We all know that nearly everything is migrating to the internet but developing a Web based OS doesn’t seem like the best solution for the current problems. Even if they do release such a product wouldn’t they still have the original problem at hands? Fix this one first and then start something new.

BuzzLogic.gifBuzzLogic provides distinctive tools for companies and individuals wanting to track the “buzz” around the internet. A company will use the BuzzLogic service as a monitoring platform for tracking the blogs that are writing, discussing or talking about their specific products or services and monitor the buzz.

With the new advertising platform it is now possible to build a complete marketing campaign using Google AdSense. The way it works is quite interesting, a company will look for authority blogs that are talking about their product and then set their Adwords ads to target that specific site to reinforce the message. The only real innovation is the site targeting but this method could prove itself very useful since it could save a lot of money to advertisers and even boost sales.

aol.gifAOL is planning to buy the Quigo Ad network for around $300 million. This strategic move by the Time Warner Company is a clear demonstration that it intends on competing with Google and Yahoo in the online advertising arena.

Lately the online advertising companies have been on the buzz radar for many reasons. Just a few days ago Specific Media announced it had received a $100 million investment by private equity firm Francisco Partners. This isn’t an isolated case, many of the top ad networks are demonstrating a clear trend, a capacity for outstanding growth.

Just like the old saying says “you need money to make money” and from the looks of things the internet advertising isn’t an exception. The market is starting to look rather overcrowded with all the Affiliate programs so one has to wonder if there is room for more competitors.

feedburner.gifSo the much anticipated news has finally arrived, Feedburner can now be integrated with your Adsense account. Although this integration was expected for some time now, the new implementations might not be as useful has initially though.

First I started by reading the official announcement at the Feedburner blog to see what the commotion was all about. The information is very sketchy and not all that informative really. If that wasn’t enough, the announcement did make it very clear that AdSense options for feeds is not available at this time. So why bother then? Why not use the normal Adsense service?

This newly integrated capability — designed just for FeedBurner-powered content like yours — puts relevant AdSense content ads to work on your blog and/or website. (Note: AdSense options for feeds not available at this time.) If you choose to activate this service, you can run a 300×250 or 468×60 text or image AdSense ad on your blog. The ad will appear below the first item on your site and archive pages once you have installed the necessary code. Ad content is automatically targeted to complement your site and you will earn revenue each time visitors click on ads. You can even customize the colors (or use a saved color palette from your AdSense account) so the ad unit fits your site’s look and feel. Check out these 300×250 examples below.

The reason I wanted to integrate the two services was to have ads displayed on my feeds. I think this is the common though pattern for everyone using Feedburner. Anyway I went on with the whole integration thing which only took about 5 min and started configuring a few options for displaying ads on my blog. After that I followed the instructions for adding the code on my blog and what isn’t my surprise when I notice that the only thing it did was insert a standard ad block from Adsense.

This to me was a complete waste of time and to be honest I don’t see what the point is. Maybe in the near future there will be more improvements but right now you can hold on to your shorts, this service really sucks.

google_go.gifGoogle Blogoscoped has a story reporting that Adsense has officially contacted them to inform that they are prohibited from showing ads on the Chinese site Google.blogoscoped.cn. The site is question is not the property of Google Blogscoped but their Adsense ID is utilized since the Chinese site in question does borrow and translates some articles and compensates by generously sharing some of their revenue. It seems that the problem lies in the domain name used. Since it contains the word “Google“, Adsense ads are note permitted to be displayed. After contacting Adsense they received the following response.

Publishers are not permitted to make prominent use of “Google Brand Features” on sites showing Google ads. Google Brand Features include Google logos, product screenshots, or other distinctive features. Additionally, publishers may not place Google ads on sites incorporating Google trademarks in the site URL or on sites that frame Google pages, including search results pages. Which means in your case that the word “google” in the URL is not okay for showing ads, hence we had to deactivate serving to the site.

Apparently this is not an isolated case, many other sites containing the word “Google” in their domain have been banned from Adsense. Trying to be re-included is an option but the trend seems to demonstrate that this will not happen.

deletedlive.gifMany people wonder how some webmasters know when a domain name is about to be deleted. The truth is that there is a tool that searches the internet and returns a list of domains that are in the process of being deleted. When this happens webmasters call it a dropped domain.

Such domains can prove to be very valuable since many still carry the original Page Rank value from Google. Instead of working hard developing a site for months you can get a domain with a high Page Rank already present. Doing this is fraud in my opinion especially when the main idea behind the scam is to sell cheap links to unsuspecting customers. People buying these links often don’t know that the Page Rank is in a sense false and that Google might correct the value by removing or even banning the domain.

I’m only posting this information here for educational purposes. If you buy normal text links from blogs or sites, which I disagree with, you best use services like the WayBackMachine to see how the site has changed over the past months. If the site in question looks totally different from what it did a few months prior you are being cheated and are advised not to buy these links.

Internet and computer technology is very much advanced now and it has made it very much easier for the businessmen to run their business with the help of marketing. In internet marketing email marketing is a very good way and it is a type of direct marketing. In this type of marketing electric males are used to advertise the products and business. There are a number of different companies in the world that are offering and providing their marketing services and anhosting and lunarpages are one of them. For the product base website, quality web templates are required.
