Today I came across a very interesting article about an SEO consultant that is being sued by one of his former clients because they have drop on SERPs listings. The problem is that the former client dropped on SERPs listings and one of his competitors who also use the same SEO service now ranks better than they do. Maybe they thought the SERPs listings were theirs by right?

A few days ago I decided to tweak a few things on my blog to see if I could attract more visitors. What I decided to do was go to old posts and change the heading to something simpler for search engines to understand. Headings like “My adventures in a capitalist’s world” changed to “Things I learned when starting my business”. Another test I did was to create a few more high quality pages on my blog with good headings and the best information I could possibly write. I know this might sound totally stupid but the results obtained just a few days after proved that my speculations were spot on.

Mike Filsame just released his new superb eBook “The Death of Internet Marketing Report” which is a definite must for all Internet Marketers. At first I was skeptical and thought this was yet another FREE online eBook that nobody wanted to read, and yes I said FREE. After about two seconds spent reading the introduction and the first few paragraphs I just couldn’t take my eyes off it.
I’ve seen eBooks not even half as good as Mike Filsame’s The Death of Internet Marketing Report being sold for hundreds if not thousands of dollars so needled to say that I was rather surprised that something this good was being distributed free. You can read and explanation why Mike Filsame is offering his work for free in his eBook.

A webmaster is only as good as the tools he uses. That’s why now and then I like to post about some nice little tools that can provide some very useful information. DomainTools.com has many great tools which I strongly advise every serious webmaster to check out, but the one I think to be most useful is the Reverse IP Search. To use this tool you will have to register for a free account. After that’s done simply add an URL to the search box and it will display all the sites that are hosted on the same server as that domain. This is great for finding hidden sites that your competitors might be working on and don’t want you to know about. Do remember that it will only provide useful information if your competitor is using a dedicated server, shared hosting accounts will display all sites that are hosted on that server.

Lately there has been a lot of chatter about Google’s Page Rank (PR) and how it has lost a lot of its weight on search engine placement (SERP). To better understand what exactly PR is I quoted this summery from wikipedia.
PageRank is a patented method to assign a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank of E and denoted by PR(E).
PageRank was developed at Stanford University by Larry Page (hence the name Page-Rank [Vise and Malseed, 2005]) and Sergey Brin as part of a research project about a new kind of search engine. The project started in 1995 and led to a functional prototype, named Google, in 1998. Shortly after, Page and Brin founded Google Inc., the company behind the Google search engine.
The dilemma resides in the fact that many webmasters buy links for their sites in an attempt to increase their PR and for other search-engine optimization purposes. Generally links from high PR sites are more expensive because they are thought to be more valuable. This method can be very effective simply because buying links on relevant sites can drive valuable targeted traffic which represents a very effective marketing strategy. However, Google has publicly warned webmasters that if they are or were discovered to be selling links for the purpose of conferring PR, their links would be devalued and ignored in the calculation of PR. Google officially advised that users should place rel="nofollow" on such purchased links.
PageRank has lost its weight on the search engine placement algorithm and therefore became less valuable an asset for webmasters. This represents a big issue for many site owners that see the selling of links as a quick way of making money. This change could further affect advertising businesses like Text Link Ads which claim that link building “helps your link popularity which is a top factor in organic search engine rankings”.
So where do we currently stand? Well from reading Google’s own Technology page things look to have remained unchanged which could be because nothing has changed or the fault of some slacker worker that never got around to updating the site, you decide.[tags] Google, PageRank, PR, Lary Page, webmasters, Technology, Search, Engine [/tags]

That’s the million dollar question, isn’t it? Especially since there are thousands of books on sale all over the internet stating that they know all the secrets necessary for you to rank well on Search Engines “SERP”. So what do I think about SEO books? Well it depends on the book.
A few months ago I decided to read Aaron Wall’s SEO Book to see if the information contained in it was really useful and worthwhile spending the money on. Needless to say that shortly after receiving the book I started reading it only to stop when I had finished it. Never had I thought that there was so much to be learned about SEO. If you have any doubts about how to go about optimizing your site/blog the only SEO book that I can honestly advise anyone to read has to be Aaron Wall’s SEO Book. It’s worth every penny.

Have you ever wondered what those weird abbreviations like SEO, SERP and API really mean? Well Aaron Wall of SEO Book took it upon himself to create a search engine marketing glossary that explains exactly what those abbreviations and many others stand for. Definitely worth taking a look.

Many people talk about SEO and how to go about doing it but few know that there is a tool that can help us achieve the best results. If I was to do all my optimization by hand it would virtually take me hours and there would be no time left to update my sites. One aspect that I started noticing was that as my sites started growing and simultaneously earning more money, keeping track of everything become virtually impossible. I would optimize everything manually and try obtaining the most information possible but ended up with a lot of work and a bunch of useless data. It was for this very reason that I started looking for a tool that could not only help me with my SEO but simultaneously organize all information so that it could be used in a more productive manor. The tool I’m talking about is SEO Elite. This very useful SEO program has helped the top webmaster rank better on search engines and increase their sites earnings drastically. I advise anyone that’s serious about SEO to give this tool a try. I’ll be writing a complete review on SEO Elite on my next post.
