Microsoft is at it again

microsoft.gifMicrosoft is at it again and this time they plan to be the second biggest web advertiser in the world. The Redmond Company presented a very impressive 4 step “10, 20, 30, 40″ plan that will underline their strategy to become a leader in the growing online advertising industry.

The plan is really simple and is aimed to span over the next three to five years. Basically the strategy calls for an increase in the company’s share of internet search, page views, percentage of time spent on the Internet and most importantly, percentage of advertising dollars.

1. 10% of all Internet page views will be on MSN.com and Windows Live email
2. 20% of all time spent online will be at Microsoft website
3. 30% of all Internet searches will be performed on Microsoft/Live
4. 40% of all advertising dollars will be paid to Microsoft

To make this possible Microsoft has stated that it will invest between $1.5 billion to $1.7 billion this year alone in new data centers and servers. Although we can understand the company’s efforts, there are still many obstacles to be overcome and some won’t be that easy. The plan seems rather ambitious and unrealistic in some part, especially when talking about the 40% advertising market. The attention now is on Microsoft to see whether they can pull this off and conquer the second stop for biggest internet advertiser.
